Fountaine Pajot (FP) positions itself slightly higher on the performance and elegance scale compared to Lagoon, though they are still firmly charter boats.

The Helm Station

Unlike Lagoon's full flybridge, FP utilizes a "bulkhead helm" (mid-level steering). This keeps the captain in touch with the cockpit while still offering good visibility over the coachroof.

Common Models

  • Isla 40: Entry level. Snappy handling but tight cabins.
  • Astrea 42: The sweet spot for chartering. Often features a dinghy lift platform.
  • Elba 45: Massive volume, competes directly with Lagoon 46.

Mistakes When Chartering FP

  • Underestimating the boom height: While lower than a Lagoon, it is still high enough that accessing the mainsail requires climbing.
