Caribbean Sailing Weather Guide

Sailing in the BVI or Windward islands is defined by the Trade Winds. They provide reliable, constant power, but require respect.

Trade Winds (December to May)

Expect consistent Easterly winds between 15 and 20 knots. This makes for excellent sailing, but means you are always beating upwind to go East.

Hurricane Season (June to November)

Do not charter during September or October unless you are prepared to lose your deposit to a named storm. Most bases close or reduce fleet size during this period.

Is it raining all the time?
Squalls are common. They last 10 minutes, dump heavy rain, and increase the wind by 10 knots. Reef early.
